Our 7 Core Values at Harvest Life Church

This core value speaks of our relationship with God and the importance of His Word and Kingdom. It includes the practice of prayer and worship and people encountering God. God’s power, presence and authority are important to us. We desire to be people who honour God and are growing in godly character and spiritual maturity. We desire to be people of faith.

Matthew 22:37-40 ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…’

Matthew 6:33 ‘Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’

Colossians 3:16 ‘Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom…’

Hebrews 4:12 ‘For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.’

Philippians 4:6 ‘Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.’

Acts 2:4  ‘All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit…’

Matthew 6:18 ‘Upon this rock I will build my church…’ (‘the rock’ that Jesus was referring to here was Peter’s revelation of who Jesus really was – you are the Christ, the son of the living God).

Hebrews 11:6 ‘And without faith, it is impossible to please God…’

We desire to be a ‘church family’ that includes the concepts of welcoming, belonging, honesty, honouring people, unity, multi-generational, multicultural, generous-hearted people, flexible to change, Christ centred, thankful, an ‘empowering community’, ‘a safe place’, celebrating successes and servant-hearted.

John 12:34-35 – ‘The new commandment’
Galatians 5:14 – ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
Matthew 22:39 – ‘Love your neighbour as yourself…’
1 John 4:7-11 – ‘Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God…’

This core value is described as follows – salt and light to our world, doing church beyond our four walls, connecting with and serving our community, bringing Christ to our world, supporting overseas missions.

Matthew 5:13 – ‘You are the salt of the earth…’
Matthew 5:14 – ‘You are the light of the world…’
Matthew 5:16 – ‘Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.’
Matthew 28:18 – ‘…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the father and the son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you…’

These are people baptised in the Holy Spirit and living Spirit-filled lives, with Holy Spirit gifts and fruit evident, and true to our Pentecostal heritage.

Acts 2:4 ‘All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.’
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 – Spiritual gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:27-31 – Ministry gifts to the church.
Ephesians 4:11-13 – Ministry gifts and their purpose.
Galatians 5:22-26 – The fruit of the Spirit.

This means: excellence in all we do, creativity, relevance to our community of Marlborough, a passion to do and give our best, and a willingness to change as needed.

2 Peter 1:4 – everything about God is excellent and we are partakers of his divine nature.
Daniel 1:8-16, 5:12 – Daniel was a man of an excellent spirit.
Philippians 2:13 – ‘For it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.’
Philippians 4:8 – ‘…if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.’

God gives gifts of leadership to men and women. Leadership requires trust, credibility, vision, integrity and passion.  Servant leadership was exampled by Jesus and we desire to see this in our church. Leadership empowers the church to fruitful service and ministry.

1 Corinthians 12:27-31 – Leadership comes in many forms as seen in this scripture.
Romans 12:8 – speaks of a person who leads ‘let him govern diligently.’
Hebrews 13:17 – ‘Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account…’
Hebrews 13:7 – ‘Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.’
Ephesians 4:12 ‘prepare God’s people for works of service to the body of Christ may be built up.

Our church comprises various cultures and we actively encourage people of other nations to be part of the church family.  We have a high value upon our church reflecting the multicultural society of Marlborough. We currently have 3 congregations in relationship/fellowship with us – Samoan, Tongan and Korean. We also hold a Nivan/Bislama service twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Sundays.
